Some Fall Fashion Looks For Very Specific Occasions

Fall weather, as we’ve complained before, makes it nearly impossible to get dressed on a normal, average morning, let alone if you have something “special” going on. If you ever find yourself in these very specific situations, here’s what you’ll wear. Sam, who you met on Tinder, is your soulmate. You know he’s your soulmate because you’ve spent enough fucking time looking for one, and you’re sick and tired of Hinge and Tinder and Bumble and Stumble and Happn and “Hey, wanna fuck?” Sam, meanwhile, is stable. He has a job. Someone... [Lire la suite]

Celebratory Wedding Weekend Turns into Weekend of Sorrow

This is about a family, two parents with five grown children, who celebrated their daughter's wedding this past weekend -- only one of their kids was missing. Just hours before the wedding, Henry and Emma Gonzales' 22-year-old son, Pete, was stabbed to death following a fight that broke out at the KetMoRee restaurant and bar in Davis. "I can tell you, every day has been tough. And ... it's hard, for me to hold this in. I just ... I just miss my son. And I want him back. And I know I can't have him back," Henry said, as he tried to... [Lire la suite]

The Female Perspective on Fashion Photography

Roxanne Lowit – jet-black bob, blunt bangs, cherry red lips, chic black pantsuit. As I dial her number, I imagine Lowit sitting comfortably in her Manhattan home, perhaps a marble coffee table nearby spilling over with hardcover fashion and photography books. In a quiet, unassuming manner she clicks through the files on her laptop, delicately tapping at the keys with her pomegranate-colored fingertips… The call connects and she answers the phone in a softly-spoken, gentle voice: “Hello, this is Roxanne.” Like the pictures she... Was Jessica Simpson Drunk, High On Adderall During HSN?

Singer-turned-fashion designer Jessica Simpson is known for her offbeat personality, but some people thought substances were to blame her peculiar behavior on HSN Thursday night. Simpson appeared to slur her words as she promoted her denim jean collection with her mother, Tina Simpson, on the shopping network. As the designer talked about her “Kiss Me” Super Skinny Gray Jean, which retails for $59, she said that her sister, Ashlee Simpson, looks awesome in the neutral shade. She bopped around as she spoke and then made a strange... [Lire la suite]

Fashion Taps Into the Spiritual Side of Things

The monks were waiting for the C train. After Prabal Gurung's dramatic, stirring show on Sunday night, which opened with said Nepalese monks chanting a prayer of gratitude, I noticed them on the opposing track. They were a vision of self-possessed calm in the urban jumble of Fashion Week: irate Post Office customers confused by the goings-on at Moynihan Station, looky-loos trying to get a glimpse of Tyga outside Jeremy Scott, fashion assistants standing outside parties pulling "Don't you know who I am?" tantrums to everyone's... Plus Size Fashion Week UK

As New York Fashion Week bustled on with another season across the pond, an alternative showcase took place in London over the weekend (13-15 September). For its third year, Plus Size Fashion Week UK (PSFWUK)opened its doors to curvy women who may not be celebrated within the wider fashion industry, providing an alternative runway in the midst of Fashion Week season. Created by entrepreneur Rianne Ward, PSFWUK proudly provides a platform for models who do not conform to the traditional requirements of the fashion houses which... [Lire la suite]

Most of the designers we talk to during New York Fashion Week are (understandably) exhausted and sleep-deprived, and they only have one collection to worry about. For Marissa Webb, that responsibility is doubled: The runway show for her namesake line takes place on Thursday, and on Saturday, she'll present the spring 2016 collection for Banana Republic, where she has been creative director since the spring of 2014. Webb says she works most weekends even when it isn't Fashion Week, so it's difficult to imagine what her schedule is... [Lire la suite]

Think high-end fashion has nothing to do with you? You'd be surprised

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is a monumentally big consumer fashion show that wraps Melbourne in its impeccable ermine embrace every year. I wandered from event to event all week, clutching my camera and wearing what could charitably be called a suit. And yet, amidst this flurry of activity which makes Melbourne a metric pantload of money, I noticed quite a few people looking baffled at the yawning banners, the displays, the gaggles of press snapping photos of models. Why do so many people balk at the idea of fashion being a... [Lire la suite]

When I moved to New York City in 1983, punk rock was jostling its studded-leather-jacket shoulders onto the scene. Disco was on its last legs, but Studio 54 was still the place to work the dance floor, with that mix of glitterati, literati, politicians, movie stars, and rock gods that seemed to come together only in New York. Only in New York! Words to live by for a culture-starved girl from the Midwest. That was the year Stephen Sprouse launched his Day-Glo brights; Swatch introduced its first watch; and Diana Ross performed her free... [Lire la suite]
