1960s fashion influences skin therapist's style

Cassandra Ann Colling's in good company with her style icons. Naming Tippi Hedren, Edie Sedgwick, Audrey Hepburn and her grandma Barb, the 30-year-old skin therapist at Ulta in Fargo says fashion in the 1960s shapes her style. I spotted Colling at Stumbeano's Coffee Bar and liked her mix of dressy and casual pieces, flawless makeup and unique collection of fashion influences. Describe your style. Classy and retro with an edge. What are you wearing today? My top and blazer are from LOT 2029 in Fargo, my necklace is from Proper... [Lire la suite]

Fashion house boss: 'We have nothing to fear if Britain leaves EU'

BRITAIN'S influence within the European Union is "absolutely pitiful" and business has "nothing to fear" if the UK votes to leave, a leading Derbyshire businessman has argued. Christopher Nieper, managing director of clothing manufacturer David Nieper, said Britain's ability to sell into the Eurozone would be intact should a "Brexit" – British exit – take place, adding that emerging world markets presented more opportunities than the EU. In his first in-depth interview on the subject, Mr Nieper, whose father David Nieper founded the... [Lire la suite]

In Milan, Ermenegildo Zegna and Ralph Lauren Zero In on the One Percent

Horizontal is not the only direction for market expansion in the rag trade. Increasingly, designer ambitions are turning vertical. Considered in global terms, the population of the One Percent amounts to a nationality of its own, a new reality duly reflected in Stefano Pilati’s Ermenegildo Zegna collection for men, titled Ermenegildo Zegna Couture. With models either wearing or toting numbers — as at classic women’s couture shows of yesteryear — and parading around a fake fur runway to tracks from David Bowie’s “Young Americans,”... ‘Bowie Again!’ Fashion Critic’s Notebook

Emails about how best to report on the formative relationship David Bowie had with the fashion industry started to swirl through the Style section (and between the Style and Culture sections) as soon as we heard news of Mr. Bowie’s death. We knew we’d need to acknowledge that Mr. Bowie’s influence on fashion was a big and important part of his legacy; it’s impossible to be in fashion and not realize how formative he was for many designers; it is, literally, in front of your nose. But how? Should we do a slide show (T Magazine was on... [Lire la suite]

Does Wearing Fake Fashion Items Make You Trashy?

Then there are those who remark…”Yes, I know it’s a fake, but “everyone” buys them!“ I’ve heard of it happening and even seen it a few times; male and female celebrities carrying around fake handbags, wearing fake shoes, belts and even clothes. This is one thing I find hard to grasp – if you’re in the limelight, why on earth would you carry around or wear something fake from a high fashion brand, when indeed there are actually high street brands that you can afford the real deal from? I know a lot of home grown designers give... [Lire la suite]

One brand, four very different faces. Redken ambassadors Suki Waterhouse, Soo Joo Park, Amber Le Bon and Leandra Medeiros Cerezo aka Lea T sat down individually with WWD to discuss their ambassadorships at the L’Oréal-owned hair-care label, beauty secrets and life. British actress and model Suki Waterhouse fronted the launch of Redken Diamond Oil Glow Dry. WWD: What is your beauty ritual? Suki Waterhouse: I try to use a retinol cream twice a week, to keep away acne and scars and resurface the skin — maybe a glycolic peel patch —... [Lire la suite]
